The parable of the Good Samaritan is one we’re all familiar with – in fact, ‘Good Samaritan’ is now a recognized noun in most English dictionaries, describing someone who shows kindness – especially to a stranger. That’s the point Jesus was making after all isn’t it? That Christians, of all people, should go around doing as much good as they can – especially to people who are different (ethnically, socially etc). The truth behind this parable however, is quite different! Jesus told this parable in response to a Jewish (Mosaic) law expert who asked him the very basic question of how to be saved. This context changes the complexion of the parable altogether!
